Got this link which says vodafone is getting the iPhones in India in september 2008 and the price would be around 28,000 INR?

does anybody have such similar info?

oh thats nice. iPhones here generally are available with O2 mobiles with 12 months contract, so its quite expensive. I have used it and its functions just like a mini computer. you can surf, chat and do everything that you would in a PC/laptop.

I have a sony ericsson K700i, which i bought from India, before coming to UK. its a nice phone with a decent 3 MP camera.

one of my colleagues, he got one for 17 grands. Brand new. thats was the price few months ago in delhi. I is a unlocked cell. that means we cannot upgrade the firmware.
And apart from Vodafone, Airtel is launching this mobile somewhere close to june end or early july 2008. Estimated price is said to be around 28 Grands.
But you people might love to see HTC's new touch with 3d screen and awesome UI. it betters iPhone on many fronts. So probably it will give a touch fight to iPhone.

Abhi all the phone which are launched by a perticular service provider like in this case O2 at ur place, vodaphone in US. these phones are locked so that they work only with these service providers and you cannot change it yourself. also how you will get the software upgraded depend on that. Right now the iPhones which are available in India they are cracked versions. that means you can put in any sim but you cannot upgrade the FW version or softwares as provided by company from time to time. It will make them non usable for life. And again no service in India and people are not cell geeks here who can repair their phone themselfs.
And by the way you must be having SE K790i cell and not K700i. as K700i only has a VGA cam with extended mode and k790i has this 3MP cam.
